Pep Up Your Curves
The Peplum skirt or dress is a perfect way to play up your curves dolls. A fitted peplum with emphasis on the cinched waist doesn’t hide curves but instead accentuates them nicely. Peplum skirts come in different forms with the ruffle on the side or around the waist.
I prefer the ruffle on the sides. I recently attended an all white day party which was hosted on a boat and decided to wear my white and black peplum dress. I guess great faschinistas think alike because my cousin showed up in a white peplum skirt with side ruffle as well.
Ladies before the summer is over add the peplum skirt or dress to your wardrobe!
Welcome to Pomponnée a blog for those who love being dolled up on a budget. Pomponnée is the French word for "dolled up". I love makeup, hair, shoes, fashion and all things GLAM. So come along as we get DOLLED UP together

How to prevent makeup from rubbing off
Hi Dolls,
One of my loyal readers wrote:
"Is there anything to use, so that your makeup doesn't rub off on clothes or when I'm constantly blotting my face with tissue because of sweat...Please help,I can't go without makeup, because of scars on my face from medical problems."
Ladies don't you hate when you hug someone and leave them with more than just the memory of your embrace; but you leave them with stains from your makeup !!! (so embarrassing). This was a major problem that I encounter when I first started wearing makeup. While there is no way to completely stop makeup from rubbing off during the day there are some ways to help limit it.
One way is to use a primer before applying your foundation. If you are like me and you have oily skin and have to blot through out the day then try a primer with oil control such as Black Radiance Complexion Perfection - Shine Control Primer it retails for about $5.99 at Walgreen's along with that try a setting powder and a makeup mist spray. My favorite spray is Urban Decay's All Nighter setting spray available at Sephora.
You also want to change the way you hug because there is no product that will completely eliminate rub off. I've manage to keep my makeup of others by using these products and tips. I hope this helps you dolls as well.

Casual Chic
Hello Dolls.
I recently went out with my sister for a night on the town and I had the hardest time deciding on what to wear. The place where we went was neither casual nor formal so we didn't want to be over dressed or under dressed Decisions Decisions Decisions. I decided that I would wear something casual and dress it up with a pair of my favorite heels. I settled on the black and white fitted calve length skirt that I got from ASOS. I love this skirt because it hugs me in all the right places and depending on what shoes I wear I can dress it up or down. The skirt comes in 2 colors black and white and green and black.

I rocked mine with my fuchsia Giuseppe inspired bow heels that I told you dolls about in a previous post. My sister opted for a long form fitted red and tan sundress, which could also be dressed up or down.
Towards the end of the night she dressed it down and made it more casual by adding a red Phillies fitted cap. We have to rep our city and our team "GO PHILLIES"

Summer Makeup Tips
Hey Dolls,
Summer is here and it is Hot! Hot! Hot!
The last thing I want to do in this summer heat is wear makeup. I like to let my skin breath I never wear makeup everyday no matter the season. I reserve makeup for when I'm going out on the town or a date with the boo. However, there are those days where I feel I need a little extra something, so here are some tips for lighter coverage that can be worn in the heat and won't feel too heavy.
1) I like to mix my favorite liquid foundation with my moisturizer and create a tinted moisturizer: this way you know you're getting your correct shade. I mixed 2 parts moisturizer to 1 part foundation. I use my tinted moisturizer and then put my favorite powder over top to set it and I'm good to go. I call this my 5 minute face.

2) Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam is a great light weight coverage and the added bonus is that it has SPF 15 a little protection from the sun is always great. This product is actually lighter than a tinted moisturizer but gives a little more coverage. if you just want to even out your skin tone or just don't want to go bare faced then this may be the product for you. And for $10 you can't beat that price. However, I wouldn't recommend using this if you are trying to be Dolled up and glamed.

Let's Talk About HAIR
As a woman I love to look and feel my best, and for me that starts with my hair. My grandmother told me "you can have on your best outfit, but if your hair isn't right nothing else matters". My grandma Mary is fly always well put together and I'd like to think I take after her.
There was a time when I was at the beauty supply store once a month buying hair until one day I realized that there was a better quality available if I spent a little more money.
I like to think of my hair as an investment; if I invest and buy a higher quality, then I will get my return in the long run because I won't be buying anymore hair for at least a year. (I'm a hair addict I buy hair about every 3 months)
OK lets talk!!
There are many different kinds of hair but I'll focus on 3:
Processed hair (store bought beauty supply)
Virgin Indian (unprocessed raw hair)
Virgin Brazilian (unprocessed raw hair)
Processed hair is the hair sold in the beauty supply store. It's called processed because the hair has been chemically altered treated and coated with all kinds of silicons to make it straight, wavy, wet and wavy or whatever else they sale these days. Even the most expensive hair store brands are processed this hair will usually last any where from 1 week to a few months for the more expensive brands. Unless you buy an expensive brand this hair usually can not be dyed, washed, or wet without becoming a tangled mess.

Virgin Indian hair is hair that you can not buy in a beauty supply store. Most virgin hair has to be ordered either online or through a private vendor. It's called Virgin hair because it is raw and untouched meaning it has not been chemically altered. It is hair that was cut off of the head of an Indian (God bless him or her lol) Virgin hair comes by the bundle not in packs like processed hair. you need 2 bundles or 8oz for a full weave. I like big hair so I use 3 bundles.
Anything that you can to do to your real hair you can do to this hair. Wash, dye, bleach etc and if you have good quality the hair should not tangle. When I got my first batch of Virgin Indian hair it was like Heaven I could hear the choir singing Hallelujah!!! That was 2007 and I haven't looked back since. I've even converted most of my girls into Virgins.
Virgin Brazilian Hair is like Indian hair in that is has not been processed, and anything you can do to your real hair can be done to this hair. Lately I have been rocking Brazilian hair because the coarseness matches that of my real hair. Brazilian hair is a bit thicker than Indian hair and is easier for me to blend with my own. I also noticed that Brazilian hair does not get as frizzy as Indian. Like Indian hair Brazilian comes in one color: Natural Brown but it can be dyed or bleach. It also comes in straight, wavy, or curly.
My sister is on the left Rocking the Virgin Indian Wavy Hair! I'm on the right Rocking the Virgin Brazilian Body Wave
Whether you choose Indian or Brazilian either is a great choice. Just remember your hair is an investment take care of it and it will take care of you!
Here's My Grandma Mary. Told yall she was fly.

Whiteout
Hello Dolls,
We're fresh from vacation we had a BLAST in Cancun, Mexico. We attended party after party after party. One party in particular was an All White theme party. I had a pretty easy time finding something to wear I went with a Greek inspired sexy yet classy white dress (pictures will be up soon) My sister on the other hand is a fashion dare devil and is always thinking outside the box. Instead of opting for the sexy white dress like most of the other women attending she pulled of high waisted shorts with and open back blazer. This outfit set her apart from the sea of white partying in the club. Yes there were other women wearing shorts, but none of them Rocked it like her!

Swimwear for the curvy girl
Tis the season, for swimwear that is and for some women this is the worst time of the year. There are some women who hate the thought of shopping for a swimsuit because most of the options for curvy girls are not so appealing. For those of you who feel this way I have found some solutions: you don’t need to be a size 4 to be comfortable in a bathing suit, and you don’t have to walk the beach looking like your grandma. Ladies flaunt your curves!!!
In keeping with the trend of this summer I found this cute leopard print one piece over at swimsuitsforall.com it retails for $48. 95
Designer Monif C is giving curvy girls a reason to flaunt their curves and yes curvy and plus size women can rock a 2 piece. Especially with sexy and classy swimsuits like this one. Monif C is a little more pricey these pieces retail for $128 on monifc.com

The key is to hide the things you don't like or that could use a little toning and to play up your assets. So Ladies be bold and flaunt you curves. Most importantly: Love yourself!

Fierce Kitty
With summer approaching and temperatures rising the need for some fun in the sun is inevitable. Lounging poolside or playing in the sand are some of my favorite ways to cool off and pass time during those steamy summer months.
As I was preparing for my first vacation of the year I realized how expensive a cute and fashionable bathing suit can be. There were some that were ranging from $400 and up; especially the new trend of the animal inspired swimsuit (seen below worn by Rhianna) Rihanna is wearing a suit by a design company called We are Handsome she is wearing their The Amazon one piece with a scoop back & it retails for $375.

$375 for a bathing suit? I think NOT!!!
While I wasn't able to find an exact replica of The Amazon one piece at an affordable price, I did however find some similar pieces to match this Doll's budget
This Leopard face bathing suit is by a company out of the UK called Marks and Spencer and retails for $56, but is currently on sale for $24 (too bad it's sold out everywhere) Looks like the trend for this summer is animal face swimsuits.
Good thing for me is that I could care less about trends or whats in and out I rock what I think is cute and affordable so you can catch me on the beach in this leopard print monokini which I got at a steal for $19.99 (still apart of the trend but in my own way)

Trend Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok Fashionistas, one of the latest trends to hit the fashion runway is Mesh.
Mesh is Hot, Hot, Hot!!
The idea is to apply mesh inserts onto solid pieces to create that "take-a-peek" tease. Mesh adds a more dramatic and fun look to any skirt, shirt, dress, ect.
If you want to keep up with the hottest fashions I encourage you to hit the mall and add this style to your wardrobe pronto!!

You might Rock it, But I'll Rock it BETTER
Hey Dolls,
I often hear of women not wanting to divulge certain information like where they shop because they don't want other women rocking their outfit. I must admit that I myself have been guilty of this on a few occasions. Once, I was on an elevator on my way to my office and a woman who was sharing the elevator with me asked me what perfume I was wearing and I lied to her. In my head I was thinking I don't want you walking around smelling like me (petty I know) then I got to thinking she and I are not the same person so the scent is going to smell slightly different on her than it does on me. The same thing can be said for fashion. I say this because your fashion is uniquely yours just because someone has the same outfit or same shoes or whatever doesn't mean that your light has to dim.
Don't be afraid to share where your fashion inspirations comes from just think:

Neon Lights
Hello Dolls!
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
My weekend consisted of Cinco De Mayo festivities at my house with my girls that I went to high school with. It's always a blast when we all get together. On Sunday I went to the mall and as I went in and out of my favorite stores I noticed some of the latest trends that have taken off: NEON and COLOR BLOCKING. I saw a lot of brightly colored wedge sandals, shirts, pants, and skirts.
A friend of mind had a face book topic regarding darker skin people and bright colors and how they should refrain from wearing them. I however love bright colors in the spring and summer and I think they look amazing on people of color especially when worn correctly. In fact one of my latest purchase: these Jessica Simpson sandals incorporates both trends COLOR BLOCKING and NEON. A splash of color is sometimes all you need I rocked mine with black leggings and a black cami, the only color I wore was on my feet
I plan on rocking both trends on my vacation to Mexico. NEON COLOR BLOCKING Done correctly:

Makeup 101
Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE MAKEUP. I even have a
room in my house dedicated to doing my makeup (more on the room in another
post) Creating my own cosmetic line is a
short term goal of mine. People often ask me questions about applying and
buying makeup. MAC of course is my brand of choice but you can have a
fabulously beat face on a budget. Below in no particular order are my top 10 makeup must haves for
whether you are a pro or a newcomer to make up
10. Brushes
For that flawless airbrush look it is essential that you use a foundation brush. Brushes spread the product much more evenly and allow you to use less product than sponges thus saving you money in the long run. Elf Cosmetics has many affordable brushes I prefer the Studio line
9. Moisturizer
Before any makeup application cleanse and moisturize your face. I have oily skin so I use an oil control moisturizer such as Murad Oil Control Mattifier
8. Primer
Primer protects your face and allows for a flawless finish it also makes your makeup last longer. My favorite primer is Black Radiance Shine Control Primer
7. Foundation
When choosing foundation chose a budget friendly brand that blends well with your complexion. I'm a brown skin girl my favorite drug store brand is Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in Cocoa. My go to department store brand is MAC Studio Fix Cream in color NW45
6. Blush
After you've applied your foundation you may feel the need to add a little color back into your face. I always have a problem picking out blush so I purchased a pallet with many different colors from coastalscents.com
5. Mascara
I hate false lashes because I can never apply them correctly and I am always afraid that they will fall off (how embarrassing) My lashes are naturally long and thick but throw in some mascara and I look like I have falsies. I change mascara like I change my shoes: very often so my favorite right now is Maybelline Great Lash
4. Nude Lipstick
Every makeup addict needs a great nude color lipstick to add to her collection. I like NYX Creamy Beige paired with their Espresso lip liner. This looks great on women of color
3. MAC's Mineralize Skin Finish
Really nothing that I can say about this product except that no makeup application is complete without it.
2. Makeup Remover Wipes
The best tip that I can give is to never ever sleep in your makeup! These Neutrogena makeup remover clothes are not only great but are very affordable
1. Smile
Makeup may seem overwhelming but it can be a lot of fun. Don't run out and buy all of these products start off small and build your collection. Remember "Dolled Up" is defined by how you feel not how you look
